The first trailer for the bodybuilding/crime thriller epic “Pain & Gain” is now online. Dustin takes a look at the first glimpses of what could be Michael Bay’s mea culpa.

Above is the aforementioned trailer for “Pain & Gain” and in it, it seems that Ol’ Michael Bay decided to round up a cast so swoll they could possibly star as the Transformers in Bay’s other franchise.

In the film, Mark Wahlberg and Anthony Mackie are two dudes who love to pump iron and haven’t met a protein shake they didn’t like, however, they missed “Pumping Iron” with Arnold Schwarzenegger back in the day and haven’t figured out how to profit solely from getting jacked. This gives them the bright idea to rob a fitness guru (Tony Shaloub) because he’s a jerk and they deserve some of his coin. They turn to a professional to help them; Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson who aside from making them both look like puny girly-men when compared to his positively “Bane” buffness. From there it turns into a pretty Michael Bay trailer complete with massive explosions that not even the ACME company can provide. However, the trailer does have it’s gems which leads me to believe this will be Bay’s greatest film effort (possibly second-greatest because let’s not forget “The Rock”) so here now are a few standout moments from the trailer:

I can’t tell if this movie is trying to be badass or trying to be hilarious but it’s just coming across as both. Mark Wahlberg can seemingly do no wrong right now, he’s in the zone and the exchange between he and The Rock at 2:05 suggests that the film won’t take itself too seriously and will play to the larger-than-life style of Bay.

What is Anthony Mackie wearing? All I can see when I look at this is ‘Buddy Love’ from “Nutty Professor” and it’s absolutely fantastic.

I want it to be known, I’ll see any movie with this shot in it. I don’t care what it’s about, I don’t care about genre, if this shot could be in every movie from here on out, I’m cool with it.

The Rock spends the majority of the trailer lamenting that he doesn’t want anyone to get hurt. Then, with a few seconds to spare, we get this terrifying glimpse of him ready to “layeth the smack down on some candy asses.” And let’s be honest, we all want to watch it happen. Well played Michael Bay, well played.
