NBA News & Notes- by HefferBrew

In the newest NBA news and notes, King James is on a historic tear and the Lakers continue to fall apart. Elsewhere, the Celtics are streaking and the Wizards look less futile.

The Ball’s in King James’ Court- For the fifth straight game, LeBron James scored more than 30 points while shooting over 60 percent from the field. Only Adrian Dantley and Moses Malone have done anything close to this before. On the season; LeBron is averaging 27 points, 7 assists and 8 rebounds and his turnovers are even down from last year. So now, a year removed from being Finals’ MVP, LeBron is playing more efficient in every statistical way possible. The rest of the league should be very worried right now.

Another Day, Another Lakers Drama- In addition to running into the Heat buzz-saw yesterday, losing by 10 in a game they could’ve won if not for 8 turnovers in the fourth quarter alone, fans were given a glimpse at what could be even more turmoil in LA. After a botched pass under the basket, Steve Nash and Dwight Howard opted to argue and bicker up the court instead of transitioning back and playing defense. After the incident, it seemed that Dwight checked out, yet another suggestion that he’s not happy in LA and not giving it his all because of it. As a Lakers fan, I’ll keep this short and sweet: this is the season from hell, possibly worse than the Tomjanovich fiasco.

Celtics Win 7th Straight- Boston continued their win streak, now up to 7 games (the longest current streak in the NBA) with a triple overtime win against a hot Denver Nuggets team. Paul Pierce led the team with 27 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists as the Celtics have looked more cohesive and role players like Jason Terry have finally found their spot ever since Rajon Rondo went down with a torn ACL. This doesn’t help the trade talks and rumors surrounding Rondo, it remains to be soon how the Celtics will be in the long haul without Rondo but the veteran leadership of Pierce and Garnett seems to be just what the team needed.

Wizards Begin Quest for Relevance- It sounds odd to say that a 15-35 team has looked impressive as of late but that’s exactly what the Washington Wizards have done. Since welcoming John Wall back from injury as well as a finally healthy Nene, the Wizards have played more cohesive basketball and put together a four game win-streak. What’s impressive is the teams they’ve beat in that streak; the Clippers, Knicks, Nets and Bucks. They still sit 20 games back behind the Heat in the standings and remain a longshot for the playoffs regardless how well they play from here on out, but this stretch of basketball has shown fans that this is a team set on no longer being a laughing stock of the league.

Dikembe Mutombo Wins Commercials- I leave you with this magical commercial from auto insurance company GEICO. Try to pretend that the child-like glee Dikembe gets from swatting miscellaneous things isn’t infectious and I’ll show you someone who’s given up in life.
