2K Says Screw It To E3, Also – By Cameron Heffernan

2K Games announced, via their blog, that they won’t be attending E3 this year.

Much like Nintendo did earlier in the week, 2K announced they won’t be anywhere near the floor of E3. No press conference, no booth, no nothing. With Nintendo, there will be a booth, just no major announcements.

This is according to 2K Games blog, where Ronnie Singh, a digital marketing director for the label, laid out the upcoming events for 2K.

“At 2K, we’re excited for the new opportunities coming with the next generation of hardware, and are hard at work preparing our announced titles for release. While 2K will not have a booth on the show floor at this year’s E3 conference, we will have a lot of great news coming your way this spring. Our slate of titles coming this year include highly anticipated games like Sid Meier’s Civilization V: Brave New World, XCOM: Enemy Unknown for iOS,  more content for Borderlands 2, as well as WWE 2K14 and NBA 2K14. Stay tuned for our live gameplay and event broadcasts to see the latest gameplay from our upcoming titles. Subscribe to our Twitch channel at twitch.tv/2K and on YouTube at youtube.com/2Kgames.”

This is a surprise, but with waning interest from developers and major console companies like Nintendo due to pressure from things like PAX, E3 and the GDC. It would appear that some devs and companies would like to go the more hands on approach, appearing more at things like, Woner-Con, Comic-Con and other such, fan-first conventions of the sort. E3 became a press only affair in 2007.

One of the biggest disappointments for myself, as a fan of 2K Sports , is not being able to see WWE 2K14 or NBA 2K14. NBA has been a staple of sports games recently, in my mind, surpassing any sports game ever created. And with the added excitement, there’s the idea of a extremely more competent developer behind WWE that’s getting my pants all sorts of tighter. Just saying.

The demand of the industry is rough; rushed products lead to things like Duke Nukem: Forever, also a 2K game (not really a rushed title. But it sure as shit played like one.). We’ve unfortunately adapted to wanting things instantly, and this  has led to things like Nintendo (one of the biggest video game companies of ALL-FRIGGIN-TIME) half-assing one of the biggest gaming events of the year. And that a company like 2K, who is turning sports games upside down right now, and sitting pretty with games like Boderlands 1 and 2, Bioshock: Any of them and Sid Meier’s Civilization, is ridiculous, that they can’t even have a small booth. However though, if them turning out a quality product is the cause of them not feeling rushed by something like E3, then so be it.

Lord knows, I really don’t want them to screw up WWE or NBA. I know they won’t screw up on NBA, they’ve only made better over the last three years (something Madden should look into.). The idea that I won’t be able to see what they have in store for WWE, though, is driving me mad.
